What to do if Bd6xNe5
In Zukem, pg.33-34 it says that if black captures the Knight on e5, "the pawn that recaptures furthers this motif indirectly by knocking the Knight from f6..."
I played a blitz game where Black played 8. ... Bxe5. After 9. dxe5, the pawn blocks Bb2 for the rest of the game. Should I redeploy it? Here is the game. Note: though gameknot is a "correspondence" site, this game was played live in about 10 minutes each side. However flawed (14. Nd2? 14. fxg5! wins the Q-R exchange), it does have a nice Kingside attack. Also, I would appreciate any comments on: 1. If move order was incorrect; 2. If there is a better way to take advantage of Black's 3. ...h6 than my continuing normal C-Z development. I'll take a look at this later...but maybe in the meantime someone else can view the game on our viewer and give some pointers. It looks like you choose an overall good plan. ...h6 weakens the attacking power of your Bishop on d6 but makes the g4 march much more formidable. |

RE: What to do if Bd6xNe5
Hi rj1000101, I think you played a good game, albeit against weak opposition. Here are some thoughts on the game:
[Event "Blitz"] [Site "http://gameknot.com/chess.pl?"] [Date "2009.08.23"] [Round "?"] [White "rj1000101"] [Black "oz-bear"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "D02"] [WhiteElo "1671"] [BlackElo "1399"] [Annotator "Schroeder"] [PlyCount "39"] [EventDate "2009.??.??"] [Source "ChessBase"] [SourceDate "1999.07.01"] [TimeControl "1/172800:0"] 1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 e6 3. e3 h6 $6 4. Bd3 Nf6 5. O-O Bd6 6. b3 ({Since Black hat not yet played c7-c5, there is no immediate need to fianchetto the bishop (see ZukeEm, Chapter 11.2 "The Patzer Line"). Instead,} 6. Nbd2 {followed by Re1 and e4, is strong. The bishop can then be useful for the attack on the diagonal c1-h6 - especially after Black's 3.-h6?!.}) 6... O-O 7. Bb2 a6 $6 8. Ne5 ({After Black's slow play (h6 and a6, completely forgetting his queenside development), the position is clearly in White's favour. There is nothing wrong with the text move, an alternative would be} 8. Nbd2 { again playing for e3-e4.}) 8... Bxe5 $2 {Exchanging his good bishop and transferring the white pawn to e5 makes the black position strategically lost.} 9. dxe5 Nfd7 10. f4 c5 11. Rf3 b5 12. Rg3 {White has a deceisive attack.} c4 13. Qg4 g5 14. Nd2 $6 (14. Qh5 $1 $18 {is the quickest way to win}) 14... cxd3 15. Nf3 (15. Qh5 $1 {is still winning}) 15... dxc2 16. fxg5 h5 17. Qxh5 Qb6 18. g6 Qxe3+ 19. Kh1 f5 20. Qh7# 1-0 |
