New to Chess and playing the CZ
I have been studying Chess for about six weeks playing mostly at Chess.com and I bought both of the ZUKE EM and THE MOMENT OF ZUKE . I start every game with the intentions of playing the CZ; however, I often stray because I am still reading the books. I did manage to beat some players rated 1200, 1300, and 1400 + using it. My problem is I don't have an opening defense when playing black. Any suggestions? Thanks and I am really enjoying the system. I am retired and took up chess to keep my brain active.[/u]

Click here to see its Amazon page. |

RE: New to Chess and playing the CZ
Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered it. Just bought a new bedroom suite; consequently, I can't order $200.00 plus books like last month. What is your opinion on the following books: How to Defend in Chess Crouch, Looking for Trouble Heisman, The Attacking Manual Aagaard. How to Crush Your Chess Opponents Williams, The Art of Attacking Franco, and Starting Out: d-pawn Attacks Palliser?
Since I plan on playing mostly the C Z, I am not sure about the last in particular since your two books are very through. Thanks, and after looking at my Cart at Amazon, I realize that I probably will be spending $200.00 a month at Amazon for at least one more month. Sa'ar[/u]

Tiger's book does have some in it, but here there is a website and Yahoo group for hte hippo. Nick Kostov has written a free book that can be downloaded from the Yahoo group. Hre is the site http://hippopotamuschess.hit.bg/. I use the Rudel C-Z for white and Hippo as black. Good luck! Steve Oldner Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA. |

I actually have not read most of those, but Aagaard has written some other books I like. A bit of a different style of writing. I suggest all C-Z players get the "Starting Out: d-pawn Attacks" book...though 6 months from now I might be saying something different. The issue is that my books do not give much coverage of early K-side fianchettos by Black... so I see Palliser's book as a complement to mine. -David |

RE: New to Chess and playing the CZ
Singh, Welcome to the world of chess! I highly recommend as new player to become as well rounded as possible and dont just concentrate just on openings!
Caissa can be a harsh mistress at times and chess can be fun at every level of play. Ive been playing now for about 35 years and enjoy it everyday. I have a site I highly recommend to beginning players: Exeter Chess Club at http://www.exeterchessclub.org.uk/ Alot of information and it's all free! I recommend first looking at "A course of Study" The entire site has alot of good things for the emerging player. I'd also find a good supportive chess club to play at! Find players at your level to play against and talk things over with. Its always fun to share you successes and defeats! |

RE: New to Chess and playing the CZ
Thanks for the advice. I am also studying tactics, strategies, and opening, middle game, and end game theory. I find the Chess.com and Chess Magnet School very helpful and I will explore your recommendation. It is appreciated. I have been winning games the last few days that I should have lost based on material, structure and initiative. However, it is better than the previous week where I was losing games I had won because of a finger slipping on the mouse. I probably lost 30 games over at Chess.com because of my finger relaxing the pressure on the mouse a second to soon and instead of capturing a piece I would find my piece on the square before the opponent and be captured. Sometimes all you can do is laugh and play on to the end./

RE: New to Chess and playing the CZ
I was told a long time ago that one of the easiest things to do in chess is to move to fast. One of the best pieces of advice I received as a beginner is to set on my hands and look at the position one more time.....
My chess teacher made all of his students do this. So he always knew when I decided to on a move because I'd set an my hands and frown at the board.
